Floating wind drifts towards viability

WebAug 25, 2024 · As the worlds first floating wind farm, one of the main technical challenges in the design phase of Hywind Scotland was the uncertainty related to wake interaction effects between the floating wind turbines. In this paper, we address this challenge by presenting an analysis of full-scale measurements from the Hywind Scotland wind farm. Webeffects of wind turbine rotations on the motion responses of FOWTs [48,49]; however, to the authors’ knowledge, the influence of wind turbine rotations on mean wave drift forces has hardly been investigated so far. In this paper, the mean wave drift loads of a barge-type vertical-axis floating wind turbine with moonpools were studied.
